The reason for this versatility is the new patent-pending Vasque Spine Technology (VST) a design modification that reduces heel impact and enhances cushion without adding excess weight. All of the rest of the features on the Velocity VST are similar to the bestselling Velocity shoe except the Velocity VST has a refined Vasque Mako II outsole with aggressive tread for excellent traction on a range of trail surfaces. These are extremely comfortable and I'm having trouble trying not to wear them everyday! They have impressive traction for a light weight shoe that served me well on some long steep hikes and the run back down. I'm not a competitive runner so I can't comment on their usefulness for racing but they certainly seem plenty light to me.
