Long gauntlet backcountry glove

A durable Taslan shell and waterproof GORE-TEX® XCR® insert gives this glove the ability to stand up to seasons of backcountry use. Waterproof leather palms maintain their grip in cold conditions and your poles won’t blow out the seam guard thumbs. Progressive anatomical curve and boxed construction allow you to wear the Couloir on long tours with minimal hand fatigue. The Moonlite Pile fleece palm and 6 oz. insulation on the back of the hand make this glove an excellent performer in deep winter conditions.

Warm dry and plenty of dexterity. I've used mittens with a thin glove liner for years so it will take some time getting used to a glove. The cinch is nice but I 'm boarding in the trees all of the time. It is sure to tear off soon as it's not easy to tuck away.

Design flaws overpower gloves warmth. Image: 2 Stars

These gloves will keep you warm. I'm just wondering if they will make it through one ski season. I would preferred to have had a removable liner but decided to give these a try as I did not want pay $170.00 for the super couloir and wanted to try something different than the Dakine gloves that I have been using for years and I had heard great things about OR. But I got to say that the powder cords on these gloves are very very poorly designed. they have two catches both of them hidden on the inside of the glove. One doesn't work at all and the other loosens with movement. I contacted OR to see if the gloves were defective or something via email and they responded that one was for tightening and the other was for loosening but addressed nothing else especially my complaints. So after much effort I have replaced the cords with ones off an old pair of Dakine gloves. I had no choice. It was either that or have powder intrusion issues all day long. And I am still trying to figure out the reasoning behind the "bungee cinches" which I just removed. My final complaint which I shared with OR is the cheap elastic accross the wrist. This is just something that will soon FAIL as all elastic does and then the glove will simply not stay on the hand. No response from OR. Again I think OR could look at the Dakine glove and learn some lessons as these have adjustable straps as do most gloves on the market. I hope OR reads this and does something different in the future.

As a person who was responsible for over $500000 dollars worth of glove sales in 4 months and an avid user of these gloves I can say that they simply are one of the best pairs of gloves on the market. They are not for extreme cold weather but are great in most all other conditions. Comments about liners. Always wear a thin liner glove in any ski/snowboard glove. It will keep your hand drier and therefore warmer it provides a bit of protection if you have to pull your hand out and adjust bindings etc. and you can throw them in the wash instead of your expensive gloves. Merino wool liners are best then a polyester with outlast. The duocinch is used by most manufacturers and works very well. The idoit cord on these gloves also works very well. Want something warmer? try the black diamond mercury mitt!!

Not for Denali Image: 3 Stars

We made a mistake. Meaning to buy Alti gloves two of us showed up on Denali with this Couloir instead. You need a removable liner for what we were doing. I'm sure that they're good for what they were designed for but not so hot for ascending ropes at 16ooo'. We used Alti mits instead for most extreme conditions & when we shifted to these for ascending in the cold one guy got frostnip on his fingertips. They ice up readily & we spent a lot of time with fists balled up inside the cuff and a lot of nights sleeping with them to thaw them out.

Nice Gloves! Image: 5 Stars

Awesome pair of gloves! Nice and toasty without getting wet and nasty inside from sweat. Absolutely impenetrable by the likes of snow or water. Leather palm is very durable. A quality made product.. very solid pair of gloves. Long gaiters with easy closure keep all the crud outside where it belongs. I really like 'em. They're the only skiing gloves you'll need as long as it's somewhat cold.. they're worth the price.
