This is my second pair. Raced the Trans-Rockies in the first pair and loved them. I bought the first pair here in Canada and I think the Canadian version has a slightly different last. I like the fit of the Canadian shoe a little better than the US.

Just what I've been looking for Image: 5 Stars

I have been a loyal Nike Air Zoom Steen and Steen III customer for years(I owned a dozen between the two). I have used them for trail running hiking adventure racing and I also have climbed Middle Teton the White Mountains in NH and several 14ers in Colorado with them. Love them!!!!! However Nike stopped making the Steen and I have spent a good part of the last year looking for a replacement. After spending too much money on TNF Salomons and other Nike shoes I have found the Air Assail IV's to be the closest in comparison. Very stable lots of cushion grippy and comfortable for long hauls. The only shortcoming compared to the Steen is that it's heel profile is not as wide providing a little less lateral stability(for those who have sprained their ankle a few times)than the Steen. Disclaimer: I prefer the kind of trail runners that do not have high tensile strength mid sole or shank. I have always felt that if I can articulate the terrain with my shoe and feel a little of what's under me I tend to avoid rollovers. Trail runners with stiff shanks don't flex as well so those such as myself who have weak ankles due to past injuries stiffer shoes with shanks tend to roll with the terrain giving me less feel of the ground and less control. The only downside to this preference is that the Steens I have owned in the past breakdown fairly quickly. I suspect these Assails will as well. But I still prefer to deal with this problem and go through shoes quicker for comfort and stability. Now if Nike can somehow shoehorn their Air 360 technology into a trail runner I would be stoked!

Possibly The Best Shoes I Have Ever Owned Image: 5 Stars

I am an average size 12. My feet are not flat nor are they narrow. They are wide. These shoes fit perfectly. Very comfortable. Great support. They are very lightweight considering this shoe could be used as a light hiking shoe. Also great for trail running/walking bouldering and scrambling. Most versatile shoe I have ever had. Nikes are the only shoes I have found that usually fit right out of the box. Excellent all purpose shoe. Actual color is darker than picture. I was going to buy another pair but they are out of my size.

This shoe works for me. I had a hip replacement and can no longer jog. I now do power walking on street and off road surfaces and I am completely satisfied with the performance. Nike shoes do fit narrow of late and had to up size in order to accommodate the width. Put cushion insoles in and this made the shoe work really well. Like the low cut of the shoe and it's light weight.
